Pathak report to be tabled in Parliament on Monday

In a bid to deflect the opposition attack on the leak, the government on Saturday announced it would table the Action Taken Report along with the report of the Justice Pathak Inquiry Authority in Parliament on Monday.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his team of officials swung into action to prepare the ATR that will be tabled in Parliament within 72 hours of the report's submission to the government, which is a record of sorts.

The core group of the Congress including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party president Sonia Gandhi met and is understood to have discussed the political fall-out of the authority's report and how to deal with the situation.

Sonia earlier met with All India Congress Committee general secretaries.

The opposition has demanded that the report be tabled in Parliament immediately, and accused the government of deliberately leaking the authority's findings that exonerated the Congress party.

The Union Cabinet is set to meet on Monday morning to approve the ATR, being hurriedly prepared after scanning through the findings in the 110-page report, including 32 pages of annexures.
