IAF trainer aircraft crashes in Bangalore

An Indian Air Force trainer aircraft 'Kiran' crashed near Kengeri, Bangalore, on Tuesday.

The pilot and co-pilot escaped with minor injuries, IAF sources said.

The trainer, who is from the IAF's Testing Pilot School, was on a routine training sortie when the crash happened at Rajarajeshwarinagar, near the Bangalore University.

Pilot Sq Ldr Papat and Sq Ldr Deepak apparently ejected but sustained minor injuries, and were taken to Air Force Command Hospital.

A police official said the aircraft caught fire as it crashed.

IAF sources said the cause of the crash was not known immediately, and an investigation is on.
