Naxalites of the outlawed People's War group blasted a railway station in Cuddapah district in Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Tuesday.

State police spokesman Shujath Ali told rediff.com that a group of 12 armed extremists barged into the Pullampet railway station near Rajampet town around 0100 IST and ordered the assistant station master and other staff to come out of the building.

Later, they blasted the station with explosives. The main building, equipment and furniture were damaged in the incident.

The Naxalites also took away Rs 1,500 in cash and a calculator from the assistant station master.

They told the staff that the attack was in protest against the killing of their colleagues in fake encounters.

Another group of extremists blasted a forest range office in a village near Veeraballi town in the early hours of Tuesday.
