Your Views:Every (ordinary)Indian, who vote should know who our politicians are. I don't see any problem, if Politician is asked to disclose their antecedents. If all of us are supposed to disclose our antecedents, why politician can't make it? If they object in doing so, they are seen as the cores of all the evils in the society. If they don't have any tainted (criminal or otherwise) record, they should come forward to disclose it and tell the society to judge it. When they are cornered (or caught red-handed or likely hood of getting caught) by some honest bureaucrat or media person, they will always have an excuse of diverting the real issue to a different direction. Politicians are attempting to ensure that `tainted' candidates are not debarred. Since all party have such (in)-famous personalities, they all sit together, they all have common interest (to rule this country anyhow), they all depend on such elements to further their ill wishes, they have joined hands together. Disclosing is really a natural calamity for our great politicians and all national parties. Surprising, they are never seen working so closely in recent past on any issue, as they are doing on this issue:):-

Your Views:Law makers cannot be above law. Our present electorate is not capable of electing learned people like Dr Manmohan Singh or Mr.P.Chidambaram. Considering the illiteracy level of voters, Supreme Court's directive must be honoured to ensure probity in public life. Otherwise, only the corrupt will dominate over the illiterate. Another notable sad factor is that in our country, the so called educated elite voters do not turn up for exercising their franchise. Under the circumstances, the only way out seems logical and sensible is to abide by the Supreme Court's directive. Any 'comprehensive' legislation that may be introduced by the political parties will only pave way for indirect entry of tainted people through the back doors. This is not good for a healthy democracy. It is also not practical to replace adult franchise with any other mode in our populous country.

We just want to know that why they are opposing this move, if they project themselves as clean. One thing that is understood is that there may be a chance of misuse by the electoral officer sometimes. But this won't happen often. This is indeed a rare thing, because normal people are always better than politicians and they strive for good person in the form of rulers of this great nation. Or let them come with a good solution to avoid criminals in higher posts. Can anybody think of a guy with two murder cases against him, become a good minister of handling police and law and order situation, be it the state or centre? Certainly not. It will ensure that At least the majority of the elected candidates are not 'tainted'. This is a big change, and political parties can not digest the fact, as most of their candidates will be debarred. So, they try their level best to oppose this move. If they really have sincerity, they should not just blindly oppose the move. If they feel the move have some loopholes, they should discuss it in public, and correct them. If they simply oppose the move, then they are making the very facts clear that they are not fair; they are selfish; all they want is power and money; they don't want the country to develop and prosper... (which all are the characteristics of a politician in India).

The EC should have and can even now go the Vittal way. ie, 1) Make Declaration optional 2)Publish the declarations on the web, and other forms of publications (a photocopy in the voting center) 3) If someone does not declare make it clear that he/she has not declared. Majority of the members of the political parties are criminals, it would be tolerable if all they took were bribes but what is worse is that they are capable of inflicting harm to those who raise questions about their actions. Since corruption has risen up the ladder of all our political parties,it is not surprising that the leaders of our political parties have rejected the EC move to implement the SC directive on asking candidates to disclose their antecedents. I believe the fear is not only that many members of the parties may end up being disbarred but also that they themselves (in cases such as Jayalalitha, Mamta etc may be disbarred. I believe that the SC move is a step in the right direction and it is important for the EC to implement it to uphold democracy. Even a country such as Pakistan is implementing rules on who can contest an election. Only in India can a thug, bootlegger, murderer, gangleader run for government in the name of democracy and thus tarnish the image of democracy. It is about time we changed that. If they have nothing to hide, I do not see why they have to oppose it.

Your Views:There is no need to get exited about this kind of development; though we could have been happy if in this case, there had been a genuine symbolic fight / debate / difference of opinion among the parties. We have democracy as our best bet in this age. The immaturity of the polity is the inevitable price we have to pay in our journey towards a more purposeful democracy. The best time to express our disgust is the time when we next hold the ballot in our hands. We as voters also have to gain more in maturity and take a reasoned decision and not an emotional/influenced one. Your Views:The politicians of this country would never learn to behave responsibly after all. They can't even learn few good things from Pakistan. Our politicians are an illiterate lot and would remain so. But they have no right to govern more responsible citizen of the country who like to respect laws of the land. For politicians it is different law in practice. It took 200 years to get rid of British but I feel to get rid of the current lot of politicians, it might take several centuries. They are worse than peons for whom at some place the minimum qualification is graduation. I feel ashamed of being governed by illiterate goondas of the worst kind. Several movies have been made and these people are shown in poor light but they do not learn to behave properly. Country is really not safe in their hands. What is more surprising is that even parties which had some kind of ideology in the past are joining those who did not have any. "Chor Chor mauserey Bhai" . God save this country from these "Chors".

Your Views:I am surprised by so many postings defending the SC directive about the qualification about the politicians contesting for the public post in parliament or any other assembly. This is general cowardice relying too much on judiciary which is very much dangerous in a long run. We must understand the constitution framed by one of the most intelligent minds of india (surely not those posting here some dirty words like ass****) and have adequately provided the balances between executives and judiciary. How do we know that this judges are not corrupt and they are competent to decide on all matters from pollution to population and administration to privatization? We must remember the judges are a person to act within the ambit provided to them by the constitution , they shouldn't act like Kazis. Take the example of Ahmedabad where the construction activity is stopped by the irrational decisions of judiciary the thousands of labourers are starving. How can we today differentiate these judges from romantic idealist activists like Medha Patkar and Arundhati Roy, who do not understand the dynamics of Sciences and technology and the needs of rising population?

Your Views:Politicians are not correct. Candidature should be step wise i.e. sarpanchs should only be allowed to be MLA . State ministers should only MP Chief ministers should only be cabinet minister. Chief Ministers should choose Prime Minister,Defence commision offcers to choose Defence Minister,Engineers to occupy Industrial Minister, Doctors to take Health Minister and so on. India to be divided into 9 zones . Each zone to be further divided into 9 sub zone . Each sub zone again will have further 9 parts so called a District. In this way criminilisation going on top shall be shunned out.

Its in bad taste because it advocates the favoritism to the negative flows of thinking in the masses. It is a fact every person is attached to a social position of caste class region and all & if a person favors, then why should he be obliged to take the office under the other that the constitutional duties will be discharged without Fear and Favour as established by the law .I hope I have conveyed my feeling on this articles, I am expressing my anguish not for the article but for the Line of thinking which the article propagates. Your Views:The attempt by political parties over-ride the Supreme Court decision on disclosure requirements of political candidates will be a misfortune to India. If India aspires to become global leader criminals must be kept out of politics and it is shameful that not a single political party in India has come forward to subscribe to disclosure requirements. If the disclosure requirements is over-ridden by legislation the media must expose to people the criminal antecedents of every political candidate. It is time Media, especially the vernacular media must shape public opinion against political parties and its candidates to come clean. It must be done now, we owe it future Indians. Mohan

Your Views:It is always an attempt to ensure that tainted candidates are not debarred ... Indian politics is always about that, the politicians always seem to look out for one another for various "reasons which never help the people/citizens of India" Corruption leading the count!. It's all about power and money and not humanity any more. If the government needs to harness a more humane environment, there has to be an organization of people who are educated, well paid and not greedy to make the legislation and enforce it. Politics is consuming humanity in India, everybody knows that ... the media in India is not strong, maybe not dedicated enough to take this problem to the roots, cause the media can make a whale of a difference, In India's case the critical factor for change towards a more humane and civilized life with "true" democracy values.

Your Views:British.. please come back and rule us and teach us how to have a cleaner political system. our politicians need to learn how to respect law, and justice. please urge them. if not British (owing the limited influence it has right now), I urge the Americans to come forward and rule us and help us have a better political system. it is absolutely needed because our ordinary people of India are a lot with greatest potential in the world. god bless my country, India.

I think it is time that India should opt for a benevolent dictator. No other country has failed so miserably as India has because of democracy. Your Views:This clearly shows that our politicians don't care about cleaning up the electoral system. Lawmakers should set examples (good ones and not bad ones) for others to emulate. They have made mockery of our constitution, Judiciary and the voting public. As voters we have a right to Information and we need to know that kind of character and integrity the candidates have who are seeking our precious votes. We have most ineffective legislature and executive in our country, tell me last time our parliament passed some laws with intelligent discussion and deliberations. What we have seen is walkouts and wastage of tax-payers money. My blood starts boiling when I think about this. The only working system to some extent in our country is the Judiciary, which these shameless politicians want to undermine as well. Lawmakers and politicians, for a moment stand up and think about the country not about your petty selfish interests............Is somebody listening?
