Not only that, this indicates that destructive unity is too much and the criminals are widespread in politics. That's what it is called. jailed inmates should not be allowed to even near a polling booth let alone win an election. Your Views:Before giving a verdict on the "all-party meeting's" answer to the EC, I wish to make a distinction between the phrases "all-party", and "all-party power wielders". It is impossible that no party has people with zero criminal records and clean asset/ income records. Even if any political party doesn't have sufficient number of "clean" people, it can find ways to recruit new people from the masses, for after all, the vast majority of the population does not have a criminal record, and can be trusted to have clean income/asset records. The simple fact is, almost all the people who are already in power simply want to cling to it forever. If anything, the political parties are missing one wonderful chance to cleanse themselves.

Nobody in their senses will succumb to these politicians view because, as an Indian, I would like to elect a clean representative to rule India but unfortunately we have no other choice rather than to elect one from the list. That is the curse of Indian democratic system. (This situation is much severe in states like Bihar.) I personally feel that the SC's directive has to be implemented at any cost. Now we have at least one destiny to knock at by way of our judiciary, but once that's allowed to be toppled, people will also lose their faith in our judiciary system which could bring in more serious consequences. Especially when we undergo such an unstable situation. Should we allow these illiterate politicians to overpower or judicial system? Political parties with an eye on power will never, never allow any law against the interests of existing politicians to be passed. Tainted candidates must be barred.

Your Views:NO, I do not agree when you say that lawmakers are above the law in the present context. It is a fact that the legislature has a right to make laws and this legislature consists of the elected representatives. In the present case, one has to look into the pros and cons of the amendments which are to be brought into the Peoples Representation Act. I am sure that a politician belonging any political party starting from a grass root level worker to the Minister will have faced some kind of the legal battle, whether the same being a genuine case or frivolous one. One should remember that the recourse to law is taken by those people especially in political arena to score political vendetta and has nothing to do with brining the culprits to book. Such being the case, the amendements sought suggested by the Election Commissions will be used more as a political weapon by the unscrupulous people to see that a deserving person is also not able to contest the election by filing a false complaint against him on the eve of election. The constitution of India is supreme and giving powers to the returning officers to accept or reject the nomination papers is not sustainable in large democracy.

It is, however, sadly true that the junta, by and large, has lost faith in the integrity, probity and honesty of the leaders who adorn the political spectrum of our country today. The alternative proposed in lieu of the Supreme Court directive is nothing but a desperate attempt to enable tainted and corrupted politicos to cling to their 'gaddis' and the consequent power and affluence that flows from chairs in high office.

Your Views:No person is above the law, but the thing is I want to know (as a voter) who the candidates are, his education, or his ability, for me to choose the representative. Why the hell they are not letting us to know the details of the candidate? It clearly shows that they still want the illiterate to play the role, but still the time is not far off and much changes have taken place during last 50 years so it will be like that one day nobody will want to become MPs or MLAs.

Your Views:I think this is another attempt by political parties to field their tainted candidates. If they are so serious about avoiding criminalisation of politics then what is the problem in accepting the election commission's guidelines regarding this. I seriously think that politician or parliament must be striped of power of making legislation that directly or indirectly affects their lives. What kind of logic is this, that the people are making the laws for their own lives. It is just ridiculous. People in parliament making the rule for us to follow which they have broken all their lives and will do so in future as well.

Your Views:Wait and Watch. More often than not, the politicians try to save their skin. So this too may be seen as an attempt to ensure that 'tainted' candidates are not debarred. But, considering the fact that, even the statesmen like Vajapayeeji, Advaniji and others too feel the same and agree with the opinion expressed at the all-party meeting, this needs to be given time before we jump to conclusion. It is better to wait and watch. The misuse of the SC directive can not be ruled out.

Your Views:What's happening in our nation is incorrect. There is absolutely no deterrent as far as the legal system is concerned. You will find corruption at every level and people seem to have forgotten to respect law. Partially the law makers and politicians are to be blamed. We need to device a mechanism that precludes these perpetrators/violators and punish them. Firstly the directive of the Supreme Court has to be adhered with, otherwise they need not contest any election. Candidates who have objection in submitting their antecedents should not be permitted to contest any election and if they are holding any positions should be asked to withdrawn. They should be debarred from contesting any further elections. There need to be a deterrent, otherwise things will never work in this nation.
