Where's the PM? Anyone seen him?

August 30, 2004 06:34 IST

By Sunil Jain in New Delhi

A measure of how serious India's new Prime Minister is is the fact that he's rarely to be seen in the country's newspapers or television channels.

During this entire month, for instance, he appeared on the front pages of national dailies like The Times of India only four times, thanks mainly to the National Democratic Alliance's refusal to agree to a debate on the Budget.

The Times of India had him on inside pages every other day though. The Hindustan Times had the prime minister on page one 8 times and The Indian Express 12 times.

August, though, was a politically heavy month -- in previous months, the prime minister hardly appeared on any front pages. Happy PM-spotting in the months to come.
